TBRHSC Named One of Canada's Top 40 Research Hospitals
By Dr. Michael Wood, VP Research, TBRRI and TBRHSC
I am very honoured to announce that the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Center (TBRHSC) is listed among the Top 40 Research Hospitals in Canada by Research Infosource Inc. Canada’s Top 40 Research Hospitals raise $2.1 Billion in Total Research Income. Indeed this is a great honour for all of Northwest Ontario.
The research activity that has catapulted TBRHSC into Canada’s Top 40 Research Hospitals is attributed to the Thunder Bay Regional Research Institute (TBRRI), which is experiencing exponential growth. Since the inception of TBRRI only a few short years ago in 2008, our scientists have secured over $12 million in grant funding for medical research. The number of career scientists has doubled from 6 in 2008 to 12 in 2010 and they are fortunate to operate from a facility of 44,000 square feet for pre-clinical research and 13,000 square feet at TBRHSC for translational research.
So many advances in medicine have occurred in research hospitals across the world. This first-ever compilation of research hospitals by Research Infosource reminds us of the vital role for Canadian hospitals in medical research. Along with the honour of inclusion among the Top 40 research hospitals in Canada come tremendously high expectations. We at TBRHSC and its research arm, TBRRI, are up to the task.
Michael Wood,
VP Research, TBRHSC & TBRRI
