The primary research focus today is on cancer, one of the leading health concerns in Northwestern Ontario. Future expansion will move to other areas where disease is prevalent, such as cardiac care and neurology. In a decade, the Thunder Bay Regional Research Institute hopes to make tremendous advances in early detection and treatment that will not only benefit residents of Northwestern Ontario but indeed the entire world.
